WHOIS Privacy and unfair charges by domain registrars.

In 2018 the POPI act 26 of 2013 came into effect. This forced central domain registries like our local ZA Central Registry (ZACR) to comply by not placing contact information of domain owners on WHOIS domain lookups.

Prior to this act, some registrars started providing a charged service called “WHOIS Protection” and they would mask a client’s contact details when you do a WHOIS lookup on a domain name.
